Mental Health Act assessments are more than a legal process—they are a site at which complex decisions are made about human rights and require nuanced professional judgement. Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs) are key to this process and are tasked with bringing a social perspective to assessments, ensuring that people’s rights are recognised and upheld.
Join us for a webinar exploring the latest research about AMHP practice with a focus on how they can work effectively with other mental health professionals. The session will explore how AMHPs and other professionals work together when working with Black men, when using interpreters and on their reflections of their own professional identity.
Key Highlights:
- Cultural Competence & Equity: A critical look at professional perspectives on assessing Black men under the Mental Health Act.
- Breaking the Language Barrier: Sarah Vicary and colleagues present essential findings on the effective use of interpreters during assessments.
- The Future of the AMHP Role: Francesca Mazzachi (Health and Care Research Wales Evidence Centre) shares exclusive insights from recent interviews with Welsh AMHPs, developed in collaboration with Social Care Wales.
Speaker Spotlight:
Dr Francesca Mazzachi: Lead researcher on AMHP professional identity in Wales.
Dr Jeremy Dixon and Dr Caroline Leah: Presenting research on professional perspectives regarding the assessment of Black men.
